Mission Statement

The purpose for which the Corporation was formed includes:

The preservation of historic areas and building; the acquisition of real property for the purpose of adaptive re-use, re-development or development projects that serve a public purpose; to assist the Village of Potsdam with community development and revitalization efforts; to promote economic development, job creation and retention; to assist the Village of Potsdam's efforts to preserve and expand the supply of decent and affordable housing.  Such activities shall principally benefit persons of low/moderate income as defined in the HUD Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program.  The focus of all the Corporation's activities shall be the Village of Potsdam and under circumstances, the Town of Potsdam.

Functions and Purpose

1. To preserve the Village of Potsdam's unique architectural heritage through the provision of grants, loans and technical assistance to individuals, corporations, or community organizations for the preservation of historic and cultural resources.

2. To acquire real property for the purpose of adaptive re-use, re-development or development projects that are of public benefit.

3. To assist the Village with the development and implementation of community revitalization activities including community forestry, the development of parks and recreation resources, streetscape improvements, or other similar activities that are of public benefit.

4. In partnership with the Village of Potsdam promote economic development, job creation and retention through the provision of financial assistance including grants, loans, incentives and technical assistance.  The principal beneficiaries of these efforts shall be persons of low/moderate income as defined by the US Development of Housing and Urban Development.

5. To assist the Village of Potsdam's efforts to preserve and expand the supply of decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing principally benefitting persons of low/moderate income as defined above.

6. To undertake projects for which the Potsdam Local Development Corporation is an inappropriate project sponsor.

7. To do any other act or thing incidental to or connected with the foregoing purposes or in the advancement therof, but not for the pecuniary profit or financial gain of its members, directors, or officers except as permitted under Article 5 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.
